Kids and Chiropractic

I always get asked, "do you adjust kids?"

And my answer is always a resounding YES!

Why?

Well here are a few reasons:
  1. Kids respond extremely quickly! (We'll talk more about this soon)
  2. I love seeing kids grow up healthy!
  3. They are a blast in the office!

So the next question is how do I know my child needs to be adjusted?

For this, we go all the way back to the beginning...

ANY mother can recount the traumas associated with the birthing process.

That is no secret.

But let's look at what studies show happens to the little one during this process as well.
One study looked at birth trauma occurrence in babies and found interesting stats:
  • 10% of children born were without trauma
  • 10% of children born had significant trauma during the process leading to significant issues.
  • 80% of children born had some minor form of birth trauma.  Most consistently in the upper neck.

So why is this important?  Let's use an analogy:

When I was little I used to LOVE building towers with dominoes.
I know I'm not alone in this.
The goal of course was always to see how tall I could get the stacks before the tower fell.
I distinctively remember playing this little game on the floor at my great-grandmas house, because she had fluffy carpet.  Now, fluffy carpet didn't make a great foundation for my towers, but being young and inexperienced, I tried anyways.  They would never get too high until they crumbled.  Then, I figured out what I needed was to create a firm foundation to start the bottom on.  After that I could use up all of the dominoes in the box.
And it was awesome!

When we let our children grow up without addressing any of the trauma they had during the birthing process, learning how to walk, falling off of a bicycle, we let them grow up with a foundation built on carpet.
With a foundation of limited potential!

Why does that matter?

A compromised foundation leads to a compromised body.
Instead of a crumbling tower however, they are faced with secondary conditions of the body such as:
  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Enuresis
  • Scoliosis
  • Colic
  • Even Neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD and Autism.
  • Etc.

Now Earlier I mentioned kids respond really well to chiropractic and here is what I mean:
  • Is it easier to wash a dish as soon as we are done with it, or let the food sit for a few hours (or days...).
  • Easier to loosen a new bolt or a rusty one?
  • Start with a firm foundation or repair a shifted one?
The young spine is a malleable one.

That is why at Restore, we have chosen to focus on RESTORING foundation all the way from the youngest of kids to the oldest of adults.  Addressing the ROOT cause instead of the symptom.

As the founder of Chiropractic once said:

"There is a vast difference between treating effects and adjusting the cause."
- D.D. Palmer

Nothing feels as great as being able to use all of the dominoes in the box!

Aaron Hildreth
