But I like not living up to my potential! - Adaptation

So I, as I often do, spent some time in what is known as "The Chiropractic Text Book".  A book that we analyze very early on in education to lay the foundation of understanding what we as Chiropractors are trying to accomplish within the human frame.

I like to review it from time to time to ensure the strongest foundation possible so that I can always give my best to every. single. person. who walks through my doors.

Recently, I came across a certain section that I wanted to bring to light as I find it to be exceptionally important.

So bear with me because I want to quote some of the book but the rhetoric is fairly out dated with the current lingo so after, I will break it down as best I can!

- Adaptation -
"Adaptation is the movement of an organism (you) or any of its parts (organs, tissues, etc) to use or circumvent 'environmental forces'.
Adaptation is a continuous process - continually varying."

"to use or circumvent environmental forces"
  • An environmental force would be anything that changes our body.
  • As an example, say we eat a full meal.  This meal contains nutrients that we need, as well as stuff we don't.  We allow for and use the nutrients we need, but work to expel, or circumvent, everything else.

Seems to be a pretty important aspect of our body right??

Adaptation is what separates the human body from the grains of sand on a beach left to the will of the wind and the rain.

No Adaptation = No Life

If we lose some of our ability to adapt, It's like we are not working up to our body's full potential.
The better we adapt to our environment, the better we feel, function and deal with everyday life.

Pretty simple!

So how do we begin to lose this adaptation?

Interference to the one system designed to coordinate our adaptation.

Interference to our Nervous System!

Where does this interference come from?

First, our body must perceive what is going on around us and send that information up to the brain to be processed faster than any computer.
Then, the brain sends instructions down to the body to adapt to that perception.

ALL of that info is sent via the superhighway that connects them called the spinal cord which is housed in the, you guessed it, spinal column.

So, now we have all of this information being transported by all of these nerves coming into the spine, working perfectly UNTIL...

Until we have a structural shift in the spine.  This shift can stretch or put pressure on the nerves we rely on to communicate these vitally important messages.

Nerve interference can reduce our adaptability over time leading to a slow fade of function within our body.

Loss of function isn't very noticeable until we lose enough of it for it to cause big problems  -OR- until our body needs as much adaptation as we can get.
Such as:
  • Pregnancy
  • Illnesses
  • Older Age
  • Stressful Life Events
  • Etc.

So now here is a question?

When the time comes for you to need the best adaptability possible, will you be functioning up to your potential?
Will you be living without interference?

If you want to find out what you can to to have the best function/coordination/organization/adaptability in your body possible, you need to find someone who focuses on the structure of the spine and the nerves that run through it.

Someone who knows how to RESTORE function and RESTORE adaptability.

Truth be told, your body is able to do all the work you need to live a great life.
All it takes, is making sure there is nothing in the way of adaptation!

Yours in Health,

Aaron Hildreth
