Why is Chiropractic so significantly utilized in the professional athletic realm?
That question is what we will answer over the next month as we dive into the world of chiropractic and athletics.
First, we are going to highlight just how common chiropractic is in the world class realm with a few facts:
A few athletes who have regularly utilized Chiropractic Care:

Yours in Health,
I'm just going to say it. This winter has been obnoxious.
Too much snow, overly old, bleh...
I know I'm not the only one who believes this and the mood everywhere I go is just down in the dumps...
Well, take this to heart:
It is almost over!!
You made it!
As I write this, the temp is rising quick and the snow is melting fast.
This winter has been hard on all of us, but now that it is almost behind us, take the time to enjoy the spring. Say hello to the new life that is about to unfold this spring.
We talk about a ,lot about restoration in our practice and spring is one of the best examples of what care can do for you in the midst of health concerns and struggles.
So, if you want to enjoy the spring even more, ask us how we can help!
We want everyone in the Iowa City area to feel like spring everyday!
Yours in Health,
I haven't posted a blog in quite some time so I decided it was time to take the time.
I really enjoy doing these but have been to busy as of late to get a few completed.
BUT, I saw, while on social media, a picture with the caption, 'a headache does not come from an aspirin deficiency'.
And it made me chuckle and I'll tell you why:
First and foremost, having symptoms or not having symptoms is NOT what defines you as healthy.
Just because a pill was taken and the pain was gone, DOES NOT mean that everything wrong is now over.
If I were suffering from a migraine, which if you know my past and what has led me to Structural Chiropractic care, and I took advil. the underlying cause IS STILL THERE. Surprising right?
Let's use an analogy:
If my house were on fire. What should I do first? CAll 911!!!
So then firefighters show up, run into the house and? And?
Take the batteries out of the fire alarm of course!! No more alarm, no more problem. DONE.
OF COURSE NOT! They take care of the REASON for the alarm in the first place.
Same goes for your body. Advil, ibuprofen, aspirin, tylenol, etc.. They take care of the messenger, not the reason for the message.
This is why I am so specific when dealing with members of my practice. I want to, need to know exactly what is going on with their spine to correct the actual fire. The shift leading to the symptoms.
Is this is you, it is time to get to the root cause. It is time to deal with the reason for the symptoms in the first place!
Yours in Health,

Yours in Health,
The body carries incredible innate resilience potential when facing germs. The body adapts and overcomes sickness amidst countless environmental variables.
One family member gets the flu or a cold and another does not. One co-worker succumbs to sickness and another does not. The difference rests in the health potential being exhibited by one person and not in the other.
When two or more people encounter bugs and germs, the people whose immunity levels function at the highest levels become less susceptible to falling ill.
Two key preventative measures outweigh all pills, drugs, and vaccines. The first tactic involves avoiding the contact and ingestion of germs as much as possible.
Hand washing, house cleaning, and avoiding densely populated areas of sick people will enable the body to better fight battles against a lower quantity of germs and bugs. The reality of most lifestyles still dictates the impossibility of completely avoiding illness-causing pathogens.
The second tactic consists of maximizing the body's ability to adapt and fight invading entities.
Many ways exist which produce a proven increase in natural defense against germs and sickness.
Numerous studies reflect the health benefits that come from proper nutrition and lifestyle habits that include reducing sugar intake, remaining active colder weather, and getting ample sleep each night.
Chiropractic provides one of the most powerful resources to improve immunity and adaptation. A chiropractic adjustment reduces stress in the nervous system, so the body can easily recognize, surround, attack, and eliminate germ influence on the body.
One indicator which reflects how well the body combats infections is in the amount of immunoglobulin carried in the blood stream. The immune system uses these antibodies to neutralize pathogens like bacteria and viruses. Research findings from a study published in 2011 showed spinal adjustments increased a specific immunoglobulin responsible for fighting off specific pathogens that contributed to infectious illness.
The study further explains why Chiropractic patients achieve stronger immunity and defense against illness. Over 120 years of Chiropractic research proves that no substitute exists for the natural health potential available in a well-functioning nervous system.
Germs operate year-round. Optimal health results from a proactive approach which includes a nutrition plan, exercise, rest, and regular chiropractic care. Nothing can replace the body's incredible power to fight infectious disease all year round when given the chance to operate at peak levels of performance.
Yours in Health,
Exercise Once a Month.
Eat whatever you want 98% of the time.
Lose weight and get toned.
It's as easy as that!!
Sounds great right?
So how do you get these amazing results through this simple and amazing method?
Sorry for the awful bait there but let's be real, those are going to get you nowhere.
We can't expect REAL RESULTS without knowing that some time and effort need to be a part of our routine.
Current exercise recommendations include at least 120 minutes of exercise/week!
And that is to maintain, not for weight loss.
Diet is a continuous process to maintain health.
I will be completing a new blog in the coming weeks for those interested in weight loss/diet/exercise that goes more in depth but for now...
I bring this up because the work we do is very similar.
When it comes to our spine, regular maintenance is key.
We can't expect to have miraculous structure if we don't maintain good structure in the spine in the first place.
**If you find yourself asking, 'why would I need good structure?' look up numerous blogs I have done providing a connection between the structure of our spine and the health of our body.
RESTORING structure takes time and repetition. Just like regular exercise and maintaining a proper diet.
If you are looking for a fix that gets to the root of the issue, not just a temporary patch.
If you want to get definitive answers to a completely objective examination.
If you want to find out exactly what is wrong and exactly how to fix it.
Look to Structural Chiropractic. Look to Restore Family Chiropractic.
We are here to help!
Yours in Health,
Goals are a very important part of care in our practice.
They help give me a clear picture of what you want out of care.
These goals are one of the reasons I get so passionate about what I do.
No one should have to deal with any of this on a regular basis, and we have had amazing stories come out of accomplishing those goals.
But I want to bring up something deeper than those goals.
Yes, A lack of secondary conditions (symptoms) is GREAT and I am not downplaying the absence of them.
What I have been thinking a lot about is what you can do after these symptoms are actually gone!
Here is an example of why I am bringing this up:
I have a patient who has just finished care with GREAT RESULTS!
Severe low back pain even after surgery GONE. Day to day life and flexibility much improved thanks to Structural Chiropractic,
But here's the deal: He loves water skiing. But how can you water ski with low back pain that keeps you from doing much simpler, less intense tasks than that?
Answer: You just don't go anymore...
And that is where he, and many others, were/are at. NOT doing something we love because of: xyz.
And therein lies the true essence of what I want my care to achieve.
You should be able to do anything that you love doing and not be hindered by whatever your xyz may be.
So here is the almost-ending to the water skiing story:
In two weeks, he will be going on vacation and, you guessed it, water skiing, for the first time in YEARS because this is the first time he has felt confident enough to try.
Sounds fantastic right?
I couldn't be more excited or ecstatic to be a part of this journey.
If you are as curious as I am to see how the actual skiing goes, I am told that I may get a chance to see videoed proof of the event so stay tuned to find out how everything goes!
So now I want to pose some questions to you.
What could you get back?
What are you missing out on?
What if it was easier to get there than you thought?
You deserve to enjoy life. Restore is here to help.
If you want to find out what it would take, schedule a consultation.
No cost, No commitment. Just a conversation to see if we can help.
Thanks for reading!
Yours in Health,
This topic can always be a little tough to discuss.
BUT, I boast a practice known for it's candor, and this topic is no exception.
Why is it tough?
Well, I want everyone to be better the moment they set foot inside my doors. However, that isn't the way the human body works.
It is important to discuss, yet again, the differences in care you can receive through different chiropractors.
Traditional Chiropractic is anything that can temporarily reduce pain, muscle spasm, etc. Through this care you may be able to see short term relief with acute issues. Though they may come back.
Structural Chiropractic is about long term results and herein lies the reason I wanted to discuss results.
When I discuss health concerns in my office with almost everybody, I hear about conditions that have been going on for weeks, months and even years.
AND, symptoms are an END result of a change in structure that has already been there for quite some time.
THERE IS NO PROCESS THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE TIME.
This statement holds true when I discuss what care will look for an individual.
Because, if it took time leading to these symptoms IT WILL TAKE TIME to restore that condition.
The hardest part about what I do is always right at the beginning.
I usually hear phrases like:
"Things feel worse..."
"I feel the same..."
"I'm really sore..."
And to be honest, it can be tough to go day after day hearing those quotations but I have such a strong conviction that we are moving in the right direction that I keep working on making them better.
(I throw in objective exams to ensure progress is being made.)
Then the day comes.
The day I hear new phrases.
"I haven't noticed X,Y,Z at all"
"I feel better then I have in years"
"I'm so glad X,Y,Z is gone!"
And the time it took to progress to that point is nothing but a distant memory along with whatever secondary conditions was ailing them.
So, I ask YOU now. If you are dealing with long term symptoms,
Would it be better to go through changes sooner or later?
Would you rather see these symptoms as a distant memory, or a daily occurrence?
There is no time like the present, to be a better you.
If you want a problem gone for good, There is no "quick fix" or "magic bullet".
Time and repetition are key to lasting change within the body.
Can things get worse before they get better? Of course. But it means that things are CHANGING for the better!
Yours in Health,
Dr. Aaron Hildreth
So I, as I often do, spent some time in what is known as "The Chiropractic Text Book". A book that we analyze very early on in education to lay the foundation of understanding what we as Chiropractors are trying to accomplish within the human frame.
I like to review it from time to time to ensure the strongest foundation possible so that I can always give my best to every. single. person. who walks through my doors.
Recently, I came across a certain section that I wanted to bring to light as I find it to be exceptionally important.
So bear with me because I want to quote some of the book but the rhetoric is fairly out dated with the current lingo so after, I will break it down as best I can!
- Adaptation -
"Adaptation is the movement of an organism (you) or any of its parts (organs, tissues, etc) to use or circumvent 'environmental forces'.
Adaptation is a continuous process - continually varying."
"to use or circumvent environmental forces"
Seems to be a pretty important aspect of our body right??
Adaptation is what separates the human body from the grains of sand on a beach left to the will of the wind and the rain.
No Adaptation = No Life
If we lose some of our ability to adapt, It's like we are not working up to our body's full potential.
The better we adapt to our environment, the better we feel, function and deal with everyday life.
So how do we begin to lose this adaptation?
Interference to the one system designed to coordinate our adaptation.
Interference to our Nervous System!
Where does this interference come from?
First, our body must perceive what is going on around us and send that information up to the brain to be processed faster than any computer.
Then, the brain sends instructions down to the body to adapt to that perception.
ALL of that info is sent via the superhighway that connects them called the spinal cord which is housed in the, you guessed it, spinal column.
So, now we have all of this information being transported by all of these nerves coming into the spine, working perfectly UNTIL...
Until we have a structural shift in the spine. This shift can stretch or put pressure on the nerves we rely on to communicate these vitally important messages.
Nerve interference can reduce our adaptability over time leading to a slow fade of function within our body.
Loss of function isn't very noticeable until we lose enough of it for it to cause big problems -OR- until our body needs as much adaptation as we can get.
So now here is a question?
When the time comes for you to need the best adaptability possible, will you be functioning up to your potential?
Will you be living without interference?
If you want to find out what you can to to have the best function/coordination/organization/adaptability in your body possible, you need to find someone who focuses on the structure of the spine and the nerves that run through it.
Someone who knows how to RESTORE function and RESTORE adaptability.
Truth be told, your body is able to do all the work you need to live a great life.
All it takes, is making sure there is nothing in the way of adaptation!
Yours in Health,
That's right! It's resolution time!
How do I know?
I mean, aside from the new year beginning, of course.
Well, I share a wall at my office with a gym. And I sit right near that wall when it comes time to do paperwork. That huge mound on my desk that never gets smaller.
I hear two noises from the other side of that wall:
1.) A microwave.
(Seriously, when the food is done, take it out. Or else it just. keeps. beeping...)
2.) A telephone
And that telephone has been ringing off the hook these last few weeks with people getting ready to start down a road of these new resolutions.
To begin a new journey of health and fitness.
To be completely honest, I hope that these resolutions come to fruition and we all stand at the end of 2018 with our goals vanquished.
Join me back in reality, and I hope most can stick it out until we have warm weather again..
So let's talk about resolutions.
What are yours? Exercise. Eating better. Reconnecting with friends. Take a vacation.
I want to talk about one general resolution we could all use.
To be Healthy. Right? A pretty simple, yet exceptionally important goal.
But what does healthy mean?
Able to run a certain distance?
Absence of symptoms?
Little to no illnesses?
Those are all important, yet don't quite tell the whole story.
Health is so much more than just feeling. Health is about FUNCTION.
How your body functions is the true measure of what our health is.
How our body deals with stress on a regular basis is what allows us to live a symptom free life.
If our body is not functioning at 100%, we experience more illness, more pain, and, in general, more DYS-function.
But how do we know we are not at 100% when symptoms don't give us the answer?
In 50% of those who have heart disease, the first sign is a heart attack.
Often times, sciatica doesn't arise until years after nerve irritation.
We need to identify and address these hidden issues before they become BIG Issues.
Let's get to the resolution section:
Resolve to find out how you are functioning, not just feeling.
Structural Chiropractic is PROVEN to increase our bodies function, which in turn, improves feeling!
Structural Chiropractic is proven to improve:
